Brigade Regulations and Code of Conduct
Article 1
Kahless (the Emperor/clone) asked of Klingons,
“Where is your spirit?” and, “Have you no joy?” Our entire purpose is to have
fun! We, the KHB, have fun as members of the Star Trek ™ gaming community. We
also enjoy the role-play involved with being members of a “Klingon” fleet. All
Brigade members are strongly encouraged to participate in the role-play aspect
of our fleet as well as the games.
Article 2
A. General Participation
Being associated with the KHB means just that:
you are associated with the Brigade. When playing any of the games sponsored
by the KHB (list of sponsored games will be published separately and will change
from time to time based on particular game popularity) you are expected to identify
yourself as a KHB member. The easiest means to do this is to set up your name
as “KHB_Name” (e.g. “KHB_PaveLow”). Other methods of identifying yourself as
a Brigade member are acceptable as long as you clearly identify yourself as
KHB.
- If you play games not sponsored by the Brigade, you may
continue to use “KHB” as part of your name, but it is not mandatory.
- If you play games not sponsored by the Brigade, you are
allowed to associate with another clan/fleet/family for those games only.
In all KHB-sponsored games, you must participate as a Brigade member.
B. Leadership Participation
Anyone appointed to a leadership position within
the KHB is expected to lead by example. This means that leaders must be active
participants in fleet activities. If you are in a leadership position and find
that you are unable to be an active participant in the Brigade for any reason,
be honorable. For the good of the fleet, step aside and allow another to fulfill
the leadership position in your absence. An absent leader is a cause of stagnation in any group.
- If the leader’s absence is extended, but temporary in nature (several months),
the leader should expect the same (or equivalent) position upon return.
- A warrior who relinquishes his or her leadership position for the good of the fleet remains an honored member of the Brigade. He or she will retain their rank as well as the right to participate in any fleet discussion, and their opinions are valued by the High Command. They have only relinquished the leadership position and the final authority that is associated with that position.
- High Command reserves the right to remove any leader who does not actively
participate in Brigade activities. Such a removal will most likely not include
the rights and privileges outlined above.
- A "retired" member maintains the honor and respect
of the highest rank he received, but is no longer active and cannot give orders
within the Brigade. Retired warriors will always be honored within the Brigade
even after they have reached the halls of sto'Vo'Kor.
- A warrior that resigns leaves the Brigade with honor, but does not keep
the privileges of rank described for retirement. He and the Brigade have mutually
chosen to travel different paths to sto'Vo'Kor. The Brigade wishes him well
as he travels his own path of honor. May he die well.
C. Warrior Participation
All warriors should be actively playing at least one sponsored game and are strongly
encouraged to participate in role-play activities on message boards, fleet e-mails,
and personal web sites.
D. Shore Leave
"We’re here for fun, but we also realize that “real life” activities interfere
with our ability to play the games. Computers crash (hard), and Brigade members
have been known to run for their lives from falling buildings or to have their
employers send them to third-world countries for extended periods. Any real life
issue that prevents you from being active is a valid excuse from participation
and will not be questioned.
- For any absence, posting on the fleet message board, via fleet e-mail, or a
notice to your chain of command is all that is required to go on leave. You may
state your reason for entering leave status, but such a statement is not required.
- If the absence is short-term and you are in a leadership position, your leave
message should name your deputy who will be acting in your place. If the absence
is long-term, then High Command will appoint a new leader as described above.
- The Brigade recognizes that you will not always have the opportunity to post
a leave message before your departure. With this fact in mind, a leave message
is not mandatory, but it is so strongly encouraged that you should make every
attempt to make a leave posting.
E. Lack of Participation
High Command reserves the right to move any nonparticipating warrior (who has
not requested leave as described above), regardless of his or her rank/position
within the Brigade, to an “inactive” (extended leave) status. High Command also
reserves the right to remove these inactive warriors from the official roster
of the Brigade. Removed players will be required to reapply for membership upon
their return.
Article 3
Enlistment
All warriors must enlist in the Brigade and be accepted to the KHB by whatever
approval process that High Command is using at the time of request for enlistment.
Warriors should expect to be on probation for about two weeks while the new player
and the Brigade determine if being a member of the fleet is truly in the best
interest of both the player and the Brigade. Warriors will enter the fleet with
the rank of “Warrior” unless promoted to a higher position by High Command. The
Brigade is not required to accept any player for membership and will exclude anyone
who indicates that he or she will interfere with our prime directive of having
fun.
A. Public Acknowledgement
Once a warrior receives notice of acceptance after the application process, he
or she must post on the KHB public forum their affirmation of KHB regulations
and codes conduct written here.
Article 4
Communication
Communication is how we coordinate our efforts, share information, and is the
major place for role-playing as a Klingon warrior.
A. Message Boards
The KHB maintains two message boards, one secure (accessible only by Brigade members)
and one public (accessible by both the KHB and gamers in other fleets). Both message
boards may be used to coordinate efforts, but sensitive information (such as tactics
for success in a game, specific weaknesses of an opponent, etc) must be posted
only to the secure message board (MSN). The public board is an excellent place
for role-playing.
- No flaming will be on either board. Period.
- If someone does flame you, or another Brigade member, on either board, do not
return the flame. Use the Brigade chain of command to respond to the particular
flamer in a more private manner.
- Message boards should be used for items of interest to the general population.
They are not meant to be used for personal one-on-one discussions. (That’s what
e-mail is for) However, this does not prohibit two individuals from going back
and forth in debate as long as the topic of the debate is of interest to the general
population of the message board.
- You may post to message boards owned by other fleets. However, at all times,
your posts will be respectful of the other fleet(s). Role-play that is in good
taste is permitted. You will always identify yourself as a KHB warrior in your
posts to another fleet’s message board (no spying or stirring up trouble with
a false name). And the no flaming rule continues to apply on these boards.
- A posting to any message board must include your KHB nickname. It should also
include rank, but rank will not be mandatory. If your method of posting is via
e-mail and you do not wish to change your e-mail address, simply sign your KHB
name at the end of your message (e.g. “Lt Gen PaveLow, KHB)
B. Instant Messengers
Instant messengers are used for real-time communications at all levels. These
include large meetings, such as a meeting of the entire fleet; or smaller meetings,
such as a team meeting. Instant messaging is also an excellent means to coordinate
your efforts with a fellow Brigade warrior.
- All warriors must be able to use the Brigade standard messenger (currently MSN).
Use of other messengers is not prohibited.
- When in meetings, “Meeting Protocol” may be invoked. “Meeting Protocol” will
be described in a separate document.
C. E-Mail
All warriors should set their membership to the Brigade MSN group such that postings
show up in their e-mail. This particular message board will sometimes be referred
to as “fleet mail.” All rules for message boards will apply if a fleet mail, separate
from the MSN group, is established.
D. Web Sites
These are an excellent forum for role-play! Warriors can create biographies and
backgrounds for their characters, or share information about the games played
by the Brigade. Content of a web site is limited only by your imagination.
- All web sites associated with the KHB will be in good taste and reflect the
most honorable traits of a Klingon.
- If you use graphics created by another person, remember that person’s hard work
and effort that went into creating the graphic – much more than a “cut & paste”
operation you would most likely use. Obtain the graphic owner’s permission before
use.
- Web sites, while encouraged, are strictly optional.
E. Voice Over Internet
Voice over internet programs such as Roger Wilco ™ are an excellent means of tactical
communication and coordination while in the heat of battle. You can use them to
coordinate attacks and leave your enemy at your mercy. Use of these programs is
strictly optional. The Brigade has no standard voice over net program.
Article 5
The Honor of a Warrior
All Brigade warriors will accept the following oath as their sworn duty and honor
in the KHB.
As a Warrior of Kahless, I pledge:
- Profanity, foul or offensive language, flaming, and discrimination are beneath
me. I will not use them.
- When the victor, I will remember that my opponent had the courage and honor
to enter into combat with me. I will not gloat over his defeat.
- I will remember that there is no dishonor in being defeated by a superior opponent
as long as I have met his challenge with all of my courage and skill. I will not
begrudge my opponent a well-fought victory.
- I will ruthlessly hunt down and defeat all enemies of the Brigade, or die trying.
- I will come to the aid of my fellow Brigade warriors, or the warrior of any
fleet who is considered my brother or sister. However, I will limit my participation
in battle if combat is extremely lopsided. I do this to avoid the dishonorable
tactic of depriving my fellow warrior of the opportunity for his own kill and
to preserve the honor of his opponent by providing the enemy a fighting chance.
- I will not tarnish my honor by the use of illegal tactics such as modified files
(that are not available to all players), hacks, or ramming.
- I will submit to the orders of my superiors in the Brigade and to the High Command.
- I will maintain the honor of the KHB by refusing, at all costs, to reveal Brigade
secrets and tactics.
- I will proudly wear the uniform of the Klingon Honor Brigade. I will not deny
my membership in this elite organization, nor will I sink to the level of espionage
by using a false name or otherwise pretending to be someone other than a Brigade
warrior.
Article 6
Discipline
Offenses and violation of these rules will be investigated by the High Command’s
representative, the Sa’oDnoH. Should a violation be confirmed, actions can vary
anywhere from censure to a full court martial. Severity of the action taken against
the violator will be proportional to the severity of the violation itself.
All regulations are subject to change.
