D'Deridex-Class Warbird Incredibly massive and powerful, D'Dreidex-class vessels are nearly twice the size and length of a Galaxy-class starship. The D'Deridex-class was first encountered in 2364 when the Romulans violated the Neutral Zone, in response to Borg attacks. Original classified by Starfleet as B-Type Warbirds, these ships use an artificial quantum singularity to power their warp drive system. Starfleets records indicate a Romulan Warbird was destroyed when its power core was infested by extra-dimensional life-forms in 2369.
Romulan Warbirds have greater firepower than vessels of similar class, but slightly less maneuverability and a lower sustainable warp speed. The Romulans tend to favor frontal attacks due to the Warbirds limited maneuverability and the mostly forward positioning of its armaments.
